50 Years of Fleet Language Circle

Introduction

In 2016 Fleet Language Circle (FLC) celebrated 50 years of existence, during which it has maintained a similar format throughout its life. Members turn up for weekly meetings and join a table to chat in one of the main western European languages. There are four phases to this story.

  • Establishment by Colonel Roots
  • The Johanna Holden years at The Officers' Club
  • The Carol Ballard years at Union Buildings, Aldershot
  • The return home

    • Unfortunately, this story is incomplete, as I have not been able to find out much about the first ten years.
